Recommended museums in Tokyo

Rainy season has come!!
We all prefer blue skies and sunny weather for vacation and if you don't know what to do on rainy days, how about visiting museums??
Here are  some recommned museums in Tokyo from our point of view.



Edo-Tokyo Museum

Hours: 9:30 am - 5:30 pm (Sat. 9:30-7:30)
Nearby station: Ryogoku

Edo-Tokyo Museum is Japan's premier museum dedicated to the history of Japan's capital city, Tokyo.
At this museum, visitors are able to experience and learn about Tokyo’s history and culture such as the way of life of people, Edo period architecture, cultural heritage and more.
The museum holds five to six special exhibitions in a year and carries out various events such as workshops on the history and culture of Edo-Tokyo.


Nezu museum

Hours: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Nearby station: Omotesando
Closed on Mondays

The museum conserves and exhibits the collection of pre modern Japanese and East Asian arts such as calligraphy to paintings, ceramics and textiles. You can also relax and enjoy strolling through the beautiful garden at this museum. The garden also has well preserved tea house and open style cafe.


The Sumida Hokusai Museum

Hours: 9:30 am – 5:30 pm
Nearby station: Ryogoku
Closed on Mondays

The Sumida Hokusai Museum is a museum dedicated to the world famous ukiyo-e artist, Katsushika Hokusai. This museum was opened on November 22, 2016 in Sumida Ward where Hokusai spent almost his entire life. The museum exhibits high quality replicas of Hokusai's artworks at permanent gallery.


The National Museum of Western Art

Hours: 9:30 am - 5:30 pm (Fri. and Sat. 9:30 - 8:00)
Nearby station: Ueno
Closed on Mondays

The main building of this museum was designed by Le Corbusier, the French architect and it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a cultural heritage in July 2016.
The museum exhibits pre 18th century paintings, 19th to early 20th century French paintings and works by the next generation of artists, Picasso, Miro and more.
